Look what I can do!

In the last 3 or 4 weeks, Jordon has become even more of a man in motion. He has learned to crawl and is getting into lots of stuff. His favorites are places he shouldn't be, like under the computer desk, or playing with dresser handles. He has also been pulling himself up on everything that is stable enough to use, and can pull himself up to a standing position. He then looks up and smiles like he is really big stuff.

MIZ-ZOU

Every year my sister gets free tickets through her work to attend a home MU football game, and they have a great spread for tailgating before the game. This year the game was on Oct. 11, and Mizzou played Oklahoma. The weather that day was awesome, up around 80. We took off early from KC and made the rounds in Columbia visiting friends before the game. The game was going to be earlier in the day, but then they decided to televise it so it was moved back to 7pm. Not so good for us considering we brought the little man-- Don wanted to take him to his first football game. But, he did surprisingly well and seemed to enjoy all the action up until about halftime, when the noise and everything got to be too much for him-- we had planned to leave about that time anyway to head back. I think that at the time of the game, Mizzou was ranked #2, but lost the game and several since then, so they have fallen in the ranks. That's ok, we'll always be tiger fans and the games are always a good time.

More pumpkin patch fun

Don and Jordon are standing next to a huge beehive. They also sell the honey there that still has the comb in it. There are kittens in the cubby holes that hens usually lay their eggs in next to Jordon and I. He is more fascinated with the indian corn than the kittens-- I think because the kittens were sleeping rather than moving.

The Pumpkin Patch

Last weekend we visited Pumpkins, Etc., a great little Mom and Pop pumpkin patch up north around Platte City. Don and I went there a couple years ago and liked it alot so we thought we'd take Jordon there for his first pumpkin patch outing. They always have kittens, beautiful (and inexpensive) mums, and a variety of pumpkins, gourds, painted pumpkins, and fudge. It's a great little place to visit and worth the drive. You can also go out and pick your own pumpkins from the patch like Don and Jordon did above. We left our wheelbarrow unattended briefly and I guess someone tried to latch on to the pumpkins we picked. I guess Don kindly pointed them in the direction of the patch where we found them. The weather was awesome-- we could not have picked a better day to go.

My favorite playmate

Jordon and Smokey enjoy playing together. If Jordon is on the floor playing then Smokey is never far away. And if there is some type of new box, bag, etc. around then everyone is going to take interest. A new bag of wipes this morning got way more attention than any of the toys that were within reach. Guess babies and cats are alike that way...

Hangin' in the highchair

Jordon is getting the hang of the eating thing. He seems to like or at least tolerate everything so far except for peas and the spinach and carrots mix that his Dad picked up. He has been gagging on those. You think you have him cleaned up only to later see that he is wearing peaches in his eyebrows or carrots behind an ear or in the hair. Don says he gets his habit of wanting to put his feet on everything from me.
Things seem to be going better at Grandma and Grandpa's too. I think they really enjoy having him now. It helps that it sounds like he has mellowed out some while he is there and has been taking good naps. It's kinda funny that she pulled the old playpen out of the attic, cleaned it up and now is using it for Jordon. I think she said it has been thru 7 kids... it's a wonder it's still standing. We have one at our house (I think they call them pack and plays now) and had been looking for a used one to keep at Mom and Dad's, but sounds like this will work just fine. She has had him outside quite a bit lately and he digs that. I think he and Granny are getting to be big buddies.

Logan's b-day party

Cousin Logan's 1st birthday party was last month. They had some smoked brisket and pork that was outstanding. Logan ate nearly all of his individual cake, or smeared it around on himself. There was a lot of activity going on and Jordon had a great time.

Schroeder

Don thinks he looks like the guy playing piano from the Peanuts. He usually ends up turning it upside down and trying to find a way to chew on it. He is sitting up much better now and actually moving from lying to sitting on his own.
