My First Surgery

Finally Jordon had tubes put in his ears today. Hopefully they will not only end these recurrent ear infections but make a difference in his irritability and improve his sleeping as well. Good thing I took the day off from work- what was to be a 10-15 min. procedure turned into us being at the hospital for over 4 hours. Apparently the ENT doc didn't realize she had surgery this am because it's not her usual surgery day, so we waited for 2 and 1/2 hrs. trying to entertain a 14 month old. Thank God for the nurse who brought him the toys to play with-- including the car that he took turns riding in and pushing in circles through the hospital hallways (that got a lot of smiles and giggles). Then we went by the ENT office to get some earplugs, which sounded like no big deal at a cost of about $10-- it ended up being another screamfest with having to allow 10 minutes of dry time for molds to be made of Jordon's ears at an actual cost of $70. Have I mentioned I hate hospitals? And our healthcare system, for that matter. The fragmentation and lack of communication that leads to misinformation, waiting, and expense is so frustrating. We would still be waiting on the surgery to be scheduled (as the scheduler did not return our calls) if it weren't for Don going down there and addressing the issue in person. The delay in getting surgery scheduled led to Jordon getting yet another ear infection, vommitting at night, and another round of abx. I sure hope that this routine is a done deal! Everyone that we talk to who has had tubes for their kids says what a difference it makes- everything we hear from others has been positive following this procedure so we'll be excited to see how he improves!

Garage Sale Jackpot

On our way to Independence on Sat., I spotted a garage sale where they had quite a few kids' toys for sale. We had been thinking about getting Jordon a climber 'cause he loves the one at daycare and he is at a point where he is climbing all over everything (the couches, the coffee table, etc.)... we got both items for very little. The hardest part was fitting everything into the Escape in one trip to get it home! The rocking horse especially seems to be in really good shape. He's a little young for it but will grow into it. Seeing his eyes light up with playing with his new goodies was priceless. Hopefully he will get a lot of enjoyment from both of them... anything that keeps him entertained these days is a hit with Mom and Dad!

First Bike Ride

After a fight to get the helmet on, we rode on our bikes down the trail through Brookside. Jordon liked the ride, and especially the cow horn on my bike, but tugged at the helmet and fussed about having it on. Can't say I liked wearing a helmet either-- I got one when he did, but having never worn a helmet with riding a bike, it will definitely take some getting used to, that is, if I wear it. Jordon won't have a choice:)

Me and Mom

Pics of Jordon and I- one in our backyard and another from last w/e when we went to Independence and visited President Truman's home. We had a good time in Independence but didn't get to tour the mansions I wanted to.... after a 15 min. tour of Truman's home ended in a screamfest we decided it wasn't worth trying it again. Don and I will do it another time when we have a babysitter. There was a Strawberry Festival at Vaile Mansion where we had some good strawberry shortcake and picked up a couple things from the booths...
